In August 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I felt a bit isolated and was looking for a sport that was still possible to perform.
At that time I tried archery and discovered that there is a sport in which I am exceptionally not terribly bad. I contacted a local club, three streets away from my home, and had my first training at HBV Nimrod at the 25th of August 2021. It turned out to be a very nice social club that made me feel very welcome, even though we still had to keep our distance there at the time (not a bad idea with archery anyway).
Below you'll find a timeline of my matches.
After a few months, one of my new friends suggested that I should try to get into the national championships, so I tried, and I did. On the 3rd of April 2022, I managed to become the 27th on the national championship bare-bow 18 meter indoor.
After that, I decided to join the national competitions for 18 meter and 25 meter. On the 26th of December 2022 I received the news that I was the regional champion on the 18 meter and on the 28th of March 2023 I received the same news about the 25 meter in my class. I must confess though that there are not much bare-bow archers in my region, so that gave me some benefit.
After the regional competition, the next step is the district competition, where I'm in the district South/West of the Netherlands. On the 29th of January 2023 I became 3rd of the district on the 18 meters.
That qualified me for the national competition. On the 3rd of April 2023 I qualified 5th and in the finals ended up 9th on the 18 meter and exactly two months later I finished 5th on the 25 meter.
The next year, I also participated in the regional competition. At the end of 2023 I received the news that I was the regional champion on the 18 meter again. Still not many competitors, but this is the start of climbing up to the district competition, which has a bit more competitors.
In the start of 2024, I participated on my 2nd national championship. After two years, on the 14th of January 2024, I managed to become the 7th. That's 20 places higher compared to two years ago.
